Fes to Chefchaouen transfer

A private Fes to Chefchaouen transfer covers 200 km in 3h15–4h00 door-to-door and starts from €70 for the whole car, not per person. The N13 climbs through the Rif mountains, so the drive takes longer than the distance suggests — but it is the most scenic section of the northern circuit. Fuel, tolls, luggage and a professional English-speaking driver are included in the fixed price.

Chefchaouen is the blue city in the Rif mountains, and Fes is where most travellers start the journey there. The 200 km takes about 3h30 by road — the route is winding rather than long, climbing steadily through olive terraces and forest after Ouazzane.

The coach is a real option here: CTM runs the route daily for around 75–100 MAD. The catch is that it takes four to five hours, runs to a sparse timetable, and drops at the Chefchaouen bus station below the medina, which means an uphill walk or a petit taxi with your luggage.

A private transfer collects from your riad in the Fes medina and drives to the closest gate to your accommodation in Chefchaouen, usually Bab el-Ain or Plaza Uta el-Hammam. You choose the departure time and can stop at Ouazzane or the viewpoint above the blue city on the way in.

Fes to Chefchaouen: transfer, bus or taxi?

Three ways from Fes to the blue city. The coach is genuinely good value for solo travellers; from two people up, the private car closes the gap quickly once station taxis are counted.

The route through the Rif

Drivers take the N4 to Ouazzane, then the N13 north into the Rif. The surface is good throughout but the final hour is continuously winding — worth knowing if anyone in the car is prone to travel sickness. Sit in the front and keep a window cracked.

The viewpoint on the approach, just before the town, is the classic photograph of the blue medina against the mountains. Ask your driver to pull in; it costs five minutes.

Onward to Tangier or back to Fes

Many itineraries run Fes → Chefchaouen → Tangier rather than returning. Tangier is a further 110 km, roughly two hours, and pairs naturally with a TNG flight or the ferry to Spain.

If you are returning to Fes for a flight from Fès-Saïss (FEZ), allow the full 3h30 of driving plus two hours of check-in time.

Vehicles and prices on this route

Economy saloon (1–3 passengers, 2–3 cases) €70. Business saloon such as a Mercedes E-Class (1–3 passengers) €81. Van or V-Class (4–7 passengers, plenty of luggage) €103. Minibus for groups up to 12–16 €131.

Every price is for the whole vehicle and includes fuel, motorway tolls, luggage, the driver and waiting time. Child seats are free on request. Round-trip bookings made in one reservation typically save 5–10% against two separate one-ways.
