Reaching the Sahara from Marrakech means a 560 km drive across the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass — one of the most spectacular roads in North Africa. Done as a single day it's exhausting; done as a 3-day private circuit it becomes one of the highlights of any Morocco trip. We've run this itinerary for years with a fixed price per vehicle, an English-speaking chauffeur, and full flexibility on stops.
Day 1 takes you over the Atlas, with photo stops at the Tizi n'Tichka summit, lunch in Telouet or Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO-listed earthen citadel and filming location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia), then onward through Ouarzazate to the Dades valley for overnight at a small riad.
Day 2 explores the Todra and Dades gorges in the morning, then crosses into the Tafilalt date palmery and arrives at Merzouga in the late afternoon. A short camel ride from the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes takes you to your camp for the night — standard tents with shared bathrooms, or a luxury private-bath suite under the stars.
Day 3 begins with sunrise over the dunes, breakfast at camp, then the long drive back via the Draa palmery and Ouarzazate. We can also extend the circuit to 4 days (a calmer return) or finish in Fes instead of Marrakech for travellers continuing north.
