Safi to Marrakech, the comfortable way.
Plan on about 2h15 for the 175 km between Safi and Marrakech, following the N1 / coast road and finally the R207 / N8. Safi is an industrial port and the historic capital of Moroccan pottery, with a Portuguese sea fortress, a hilltop potters' quarter and big-wave reef breaks known to serious surfers.

The road from Safi to Marrakech
South of Safi the road hugs the coast past Souiria Kdima's fishing beach, then crosses the Had Draa farmland towards Essaouira. Leaving Essaouira the road passes through argan forest to Ounagha, then crosses the flat Chiadma plain to the Chichaoua junction and runs east into Marrakech with the High Atlas on the right. Good places to break the drive: Souiria Kdima beach, the argan cooperatives at Ounagha and a café stop at Chichaoua.
Arriving in Marrakech
Marrakech is Morocco's busiest tourist city — a walled medina of souks and riads around Jemaa el-Fnaa, with the modern Guéliz and Hivernage districts and the Palmeraie villas outside the walls. Cars cannot enter most medina lanes. Drivers stop at the nearest gate or square (Bab Doukkala, Riad Zitoun, Dar el-Bacha) and your riad usually sends a porter with a trolley — give us the riad's name so we can arrange it.

A final practical note on Marrakech: spring and autumn are ideal; July and August regularly pass 40 °C, so midday arrivals are best spent indoors.
