2 Days in Dubai: The Stopover Itinerary
A 48-hour Dubai stopover plan — Burj Khalifa, the old creek, the desert and the Marina — with realistic driving times from DXB and fixed airport transfer prices.
Dubai is built for the 48-hour visit. The city is a straight line along Sheikh Zayed Road, so a stopover works if you take it in order: old town one morning, new town the next, desert in between.
Arrival
DXB is 15 km from Downtown and 30 from the Marina. Metro runs until late but not with luggage-friendly comfort; fixed-price Dubai airport transfers put you at the hotel door for a price agreed in advance, which matters when you land at 02:00 on a long-haul connection.
Day 1 — Old Dubai, then Downtown
- Morning — Al Fahidi historical district, the coffee museum, then an abra across the creek for one dirham.
- Midday — gold and spice souks in Deira.
- Afternoon — Dubai Mall and the aquarium, out of the heat.
- Evening — Burj Khalifa at sunset (book the timed slot days ahead), fountains from the bridge afterwards.
Day 2 — Desert and the coast
- Morning — Jumeirah mosque and Kite Beach, or the Museum of the Future if it rains — it happens.
- Afternoon — desert safari: dune drive, camels, dinner under the stars. Pick-ups leave around 15:00.
- Late — Dubai Marina walk and the JBR beachfront if your flight is after midnight.
Getting around
The metro is excellent between Downtown and the Marina and useless for everything else. Taxis are metered and plentiful but scarce at peak hours. For the airport, the desert pickup and the Palm, a booked car with a fixed price avoids surge pricing entirely — see the UAE transfers page.

When to go
