Chefchaouen to Marrakech, the comfortable way.

The Chefchaouen–Marrakech transfer covers 580 km in about 8h30. It links the Rif mountains with the Haouz plain by way of Tangier, Rabat and Nouaceur (skirting Casablanca), and it is priced per vehicle from €348, so a family or group pays the same as one traveller.
Who makes the Chefchaouen to Marrakech trip
Why this trip? Chefchaouen is usually a one- or two-night stop between Tangier and Fes, so departures often continue straight on. As for Marrakech, most visitors come for the medina itself: a riad stay, the souks, the Majorelle Garden and evenings on Jemaa el-Fnaa. Few people make this 580 km crossing in one go, and we would rather say so plainly: it is booked by travellers who have a fixed flight or hotel at the far end and would rather cover the distance in one private day than stitch together buses and grand taxis.
The road from Chefchaouen to Marrakech
From Chefchaouen the road winds north out of the Rif to Tetouan's white medina and across to Tangier. South of Tangier the A1 passes Asilah and Larache, then runs through Kenitra's farmland to Rabat. From Rabat the coastal motorway heads south and bypasses Casablanca on the east to reach Mohammed V without entering the city. South of Mohammed V the A7 crosses the Chaouia wheat plains past Berrechid, Settat and Benguerir, then drops over the Jbilet hills into Marrakech. Good places to break the drive: Asilah's painted medina, Larache's Lixus ruins and the Settat service area.
Arriving in Marrakech
Marrakech is Morocco's busiest tourist city — a walled medina of souks and riads around Jemaa el-Fnaa, with the modern Guéliz and Hivernage districts and the Palmeraie villas outside the walls. Cars cannot enter most medina lanes. Drivers stop at the nearest gate or square (Bab Doukkala, Riad Zitoun, Dar el-Bacha) and your riad usually sends a porter with a trolley — give us the riad's name so we can arrange it.
Should you split the journey?
At 8h30 this is a full day in the car. We run it in one day for anyone who wants that — with breaks every two hours or so — but many travellers prefer to split it. The natural halfway point is Rabat: Rabat is a calm capital for a night, with the Kasbah of the Udayas at sunset. Book two one-way legs and the driver meets you again the next morning.
Before you go
Once you are in Marrakech, Marrakech is the easiest place in Morocco to chain the next leg from — Essaouira, the Atlas valleys and Ouarzazate are all within three to four hours. Spring and autumn are ideal; July and August regularly pass 40 °C, so midday arrivals are best spent indoors. The return leg, Marrakech to Chefchaouen, has its own page and the same per-vehicle pricing.
Privatwagen, Fernbus, Grand Taxi oder Zug?
The fastest way from Chefchaouen to Marrakech is a private transfer: about 8 h 30 door to door for a fixed €348 for the whole vehicle. The coach is cheaper per person but adds a transfer at each end and roughly an hour of waiting; a shared grand taxi only leaves once six seats are sold.
| Option | Typical price | Journey time | Door to door | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer (Bacharide) | from €348 per vehicle | 8 h 30 | Yes | Fixed fare for the whole car, hotel-door pickup, luggage and child seats included, flight tracked. |
| CTM / Supratours coach | ~€40 per person | 11 h 60 | No | Cheapest option, but fixed departure times, station-to-station, and luggage is charged by the bag. |
| Shared grand taxi | ~€50 per seat | 9 h 45 | No | Leaves only when six seats are sold. No seatbelts in the rear, no boot space for large cases. |
| Self-drive hire car | ~€100 per day + fuel | 8 h 60 | Yes | Flexible, but you handle the mountain passes, city parking and the deposit hold. |
Coach, grand taxi and rail figures are typical published fares and timings for Moroccan operators (CTM, Supratours, ONCF) and vary by season. Only the Bacharide fare is fixed and quoted at booking.
