Fes–Saïss (FEZ) is a compact single-terminal airport 15 km south of the city. Your driver waits in arrivals with a name sign and you are usually moving within ten minutes of clearing customs. Fes el Bali medina is 20–25 minutes away; Chefchaouen is about 3 h 30 and Meknes an hour.
FEZ is small and easy. There is one arrivals door, a short walk to the car park and a fast road into the city, so the airport itself is rarely the slow part of the journey.
What is slow is the medina. Fes el Bali is the largest car-free urban area in the world, and no vehicle reaches most riads. Drivers drop at the nearest gate — Bab Boujloud, Bab Rcif or Bab Guissa depending on your address — and riads usually send a porter to meet you there.
