Marrakech Airport to Essaouira: Transfer Times, Prices & Tips

How to get from Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) to Essaouira: route, duration, vehicle options and 2026 prices.

Essaouira is 190 km west of Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK), via the modern N8 expressway. Plan for 2h30 to 3h00 door to door — and skip the long taxi queue at the terminal by pre-booking your driver.

The route in one minute

Drivers take the N8 toll-free expressway through Chichaoua, then descend toward the Atlantic coast. The road is wide, scenic, and well-maintained. The only stretch that can slow you down is the final 30 km approaching Essaouira, where argan groves and goat- in-tree photo spots tempt every passing driver to pull over.

Prices in 2026

  • Economy sedan (1–3 pax) — from €90 one-way
  • Standard E-Class (1–3 pax) — from €120 one-way
  • Van / Vito (4–7 pax) — from €150 one-way
  • Minibus 12 pax (Sprinter) — from €220 one-way

Why not the airport taxi rank?

Petit taxis at RAK are not licensed for the Essaouira run. Grand taxis will take you, but pricing is negotiated on the spot and rarely matches a pre-booked private transfer once you factor in the wait, no flight tracking, no luggage allowance, and no English-speaking driver.

Should I stop for lunch on the way?

Yes. Sidi Mokhtar, roughly 100 km in, has a few clean roadside tagine restaurants used by tour operators. Allow 45 minutes. Tell your driver in advance — Bacharide chauffeurs include up to one short stop at no extra cost.

Returning to the airport

For your flight back, aim to leave Essaouira at least 4 hours before departure: 3 hours of driving plus 2 hours of recommended airport check-in time. Round-trip bookings save 5–10% versus two separate one-ways.
