Aghroud to Casablanca, the comfortable way.

Plan on about 5h55 for the 485 km between Aghroud and Casablanca, following the N1 cliff road, the N1 through argan country, the N1 / coast road, the R301 coastal road and finally the A1 motorway. Aghroud is a small stretch of surf coast between Aourir and Tamraght, known for its sand-bottom beach break and a few low-key guesthouses.
Who makes the Aghroud to Casablanca trip
Why this trip? Guests leave Aghroud mostly for airport runs or to spend a day in Agadir's souk and marina. As for Casablanca, most visitors come for business, a stopover to see the Hassan II Mosque, or because their international flight lands at Mohammed V. Few people make this 485 km crossing in one go, and we would rather say so plainly: it is booked by travellers who have a fixed flight or hotel at the far end and would rather cover the distance in one private day than stitch together buses and grand taxis.
The road from Aghroud to Casablanca
Aghroud sits on the coast just south of Tamraght, between the Aourir junction and Banana Point. Beyond Taghazout the N1 climbs above the cliffs past the Cap Ghir lighthouse and the banana plantations of Tamri, with the Atlantic below on the left. North of Imsouane the road turns inland through rolling argan hills around Tamanar and Smimou, where women's cooperatives sell argan oil at the roadside, then rejoins the coast at Essaouira. North of Essaouira the road crosses the Had Draa farmland and then follows the coast past Souiria Kdima's beach into Safi. Between Safi and El Jadida the R301 follows the coast past salt pans, market gardens and the Oualidia lagoon, famous for its oysters. From El Jadida the A1 motorway runs north past Azemmour, where the Oum Er-Rbia river meets the sea, to Casablanca. Good places to break the drive: an argan oil cooperative near Tamanar, goats in the argan trees around Smimou and Souiria Kdima beach.
Arriving in Casablanca
Casablanca is Morocco's economic capital — a sprawling Art Deco port city, home to the Hassan II Mosque on its seafront and the country's main business district. City traffic is the main variable — the A1 ring and Boulevard d'Anfa jam at rush hour, so add half an hour on weekday evenings.
Before you go
A final practical note on Casablanca: temperate all year; winter is grey and damp more often than it is cold. And when you are ready to move on, Rabat is an hour up the coast, and Marrakech under three hours down the A7. The return leg, Casablanca to Aghroud, has its own page and the same per-vehicle pricing.
