Who makes the Agadir to Tangier trip

Why this trip? Agadir works as a base, so trips out of it are usually day-trip-length or the start of a move to the surf villages, Marrakech or the deep south. As for Tangier, people arrive by ferry from Spain or fly in to start a northern Morocco trip, and stay for the kasbah, the Café Hafa terraces and Cap Spartel. Plenty of the bookings on this corridor are business trips, where a fixed pickup time and Wi-Fi in the car matter more than scenery — though there is some on the way.

The road from Agadir to Tangier

From Agadir the A7 motorway climbs through the argan-covered western High Atlas by Amskroud and Argana — tunnels, viaducts and long views — then descends across the Chichaoua plain to Marrakech. North of Marrakech the A7 crosses the Jbilet hills and the long, flat Rehamna and Chaouia plains past Benguerir and Settat to Mohammed V airport. From Mohammed V a motorway bypass skirts Casablanca's eastern edge and joins the coastal A3 to Rabat, avoiding the city traffic. North of Rabat the A1 passes Kenitra and the Loukkos plain by Larache, with the painted seaside town of Asilah just off the motorway before Tangier. Good places to break the drive: the Argana viewpoints, the Settat service area and the Sidi Bou Othmane service area.

Arriving in Tangier

Tangier faces Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar — a port city with a lively medina and kasbah, a long literary history and a newly rebuilt seafront. Kasbah and medina addresses are pedestrian; drivers stop at Place de la Kasbah or the Grand Socco.

Should you split the journey?

At 11 hours this is a full day in the car. We run it in one day for anyone who wants that — with breaks every two hours or so — but many travellers prefer to split it. The natural halfway point is Marrakech: Marrakech is the natural halfway house for almost any north–south crossing. Book two one-way legs and the driver meets you again the next morning.

A final practical note on Tangier: mild and green; winter wind in the Strait can disrupt ferries.
