Agadir Airport to Safi, the comfortable way.

Plan on about 3h30 for the 275 km between Agadir Airport and Safi, following the N1 coast road, the N1 cliff road, the N1 through argan country and finally the N1 / coast road. Agadir Al Massira (AGA) is the gateway for the whole south-west — charter and low-cost flights for the beach hotels, the surf coast and the Anti-Atlas.
Who makes the Agadir Airport to Safi trip
Almost everyone booking this leg has just landed at Agadir Airport. Many AGA arrivals are not staying in Agadir at all — they are heading north to the surf villages, south to Tiznit and Mirleft, or even up to Marrakech. Safi is the destination because visitors come for the potters' quarter and ceramics museum, surfers for the heavy right-hander in winter, and business travellers for the port. After a flight, 3h30 is a long time to spend in a car, so it pays to pick the roomier vehicle class and ask the driver to stop once or twice — the fare does not change.
The road from Agadir Airport to Safi
Al Massira Airport lies inland at Temsia, about 25 km south-east of the Agadir seafront via the N10. North of Agadir the N1 runs along the ocean through Anza and Aourir — the 'Banana Village' roadside stalls — before the first surf villages appear. Beyond Taghazout the N1 climbs above the cliffs past the Cap Ghir lighthouse and the banana plantations of Tamri, with the Atlantic below on the left. North of Imsouane the road turns inland through rolling argan hills around Tamanar and Smimou, where women's cooperatives sell argan oil at the roadside, then rejoins the coast at Essaouira. North of Essaouira the road crosses the Had Draa farmland and then follows the coast past Souiria Kdima's beach into Safi. Good places to break the drive: the Cap Ghir lighthouse viewpoint, Tamri's banana plantations and an argan oil cooperative near Tamanar.
Arriving in Safi
Safi is an industrial port and the historic capital of Moroccan pottery, with a Portuguese sea fortress, a hilltop potters' quarter and big-wave reef breaks known to serious surfers. Hotels are spread between the port, the modern centre and the cliff road; addresses are straightforward by car.
Before you go
A final practical note on Safi: mild coastal climate; winter swells make it a surf destination from November to February. And when you are ready to move on, the Oualidia oyster lagoon is an hour north along the coast. The return leg, Safi to Agadir Airport, has its own page and the same per-vehicle pricing.
