Between Safi and El Jadida the R301 follows the coast past salt pans, market gardens and the Oualidia lagoon, famous for its oysters. Good places to break the drive: goats in the argan trees around Smimou, Souiria Kdima beach and an oyster lunch at Oualidia.

El Jadida is a seaside town 100 km south of Casablanca, built around a UNESCO-listed Portuguese fortress (Mazagan) with its famous underground cistern, plus a big beach resort just north of town. The Cité Portugaise is walkable and partly pedestrian; the resort hotels north of town have their own drive-up gates.
