Agadir to Rabat is 595 km by road — roughly 7h15 in a private car by way of Marrakech and Nouaceur (skirting Casablanca). Travellers come for government and embassy business, the museums and the Kasbah, or a quieter imperial-city stay, and the drive in is part of the story.

Who makes the Agadir to Rabat trip

Why this trip? Agadir works as a base, so trips out of it are usually day-trip-length or the start of a move to the surf villages, Marrakech or the deep south. As for Rabat, travellers come for government and embassy business, the museums and the Kasbah, or a quieter imperial-city stay. Plenty of the bookings on this corridor are business trips, where a fixed pickup time and Wi-Fi in the car matter more than scenery — though there is some on the way.

The road from Agadir to Rabat

From Agadir the A7 motorway climbs through the argan-covered western High Atlas by Amskroud and Argana — tunnels, viaducts and long views — then descends across the Chichaoua plain to Marrakech. North of Marrakech the A7 crosses the Jbilet hills and the long, flat Rehamna and Chaouia plains past Benguerir and Settat to Mohammed V airport. From Mohammed V a motorway bypass skirts Casablanca's eastern edge and joins the coastal A3 to Rabat, avoiding the city traffic. Good places to break the drive: the service area near Imi n'Tanout, the Argana viewpoints and the Settat service area.

Arriving in Rabat

Rabat is Morocco's capital — calm, green and orderly, with the Kasbah of the Udayas above the river mouth, the Hassan Tower and a compact medina. Rabat's medina and Kasbah are pedestrian; hotels in Agdal and Hassan are easy drive-up addresses.

Should you split the journey?

At 7h15 this is a full day in the car. We run it in one day for anyone who wants that — with breaks every two hours or so — but many travellers prefer to split it. The natural halfway point is Marrakech: Marrakech is the natural halfway house for almost any north–south crossing. Book two one-way legs and the driver meets you again the next morning.

Before you go

A final practical note on Rabat: mild coastal climate; spring is lovely, winter can be wet. And when you are ready to move on, Salé's old medina is just across the Bou Regreg, and Meknes and Volubilis are two hours east. The return leg, Rabat to Agadir, has its own page and the same per-vehicle pricing.
